Cricket world cup not only important cricket match yesterday

While England went on to win the Cricket World Cup with Irish man Eoin Morgan captaining the side, an arguably bigger game was taking place in Carlow College yesterday

The game in question was a massive local derby in the Middle 2 Cup Quarter-Final between Carlow Cricket Club and Bagenalstown Cricket Club, the oldest provincial cricket club in Ireland.

This was to be the first meeting of the sides in competitive action for several years.

50’s from Zahir Uddin and Rocky Butt propelled Carlow to 193 with the Baggies needing 194 to win this historic match.

In the end Bagenalstown proved to be victorious as they won by 3 wickets. Carlow wont have to wait long for their rematch as the two sides will meet again soon Wallace Cup Semi-Final.
